Since 1998, children from all over Tuscaloosa County have convened with professional Blues musicians for a unique learning opportunity. Alabama Blues Project’s award-winning After-School and Summer programs have reached thousands of music-loving youth.

Each week, students ages 8-17 have hands-on music instruction in vocals, drums, harmonica, guitar or bass guitar. Intermediate and advanced levels are offered for students showing ability and dedication. The program also offers a unique Blues History curriculum that integrates life skills and has brought in guest artists such as Blues greats Willie King, Eddie Kirkland, Sam Lay, Carroline Shines and Dr. Burt to name just a few.

Blues Camp brings a diverse mix of children, from all walks of life, together for a positive learning experience. It gives youth a positive way to express emotions through blues music while they are encouraged to build their improvisation and performance skills.

By practicing and performing together, Blues Camp students learn teamwork, social skills, discipline, and improve their self-confidence. The camp culminates with an Open House performance, in which the students are able to showcase their skills for the public.
